Audience Feedback on Magazine
This is the audience feedback for the magazine and again Fariha has recorded the feedback down on paper and then taken a picture to put on our blogs. She has asked the same people who looked at our poster, to feedback on our magazine. I am going to write down the feedback underneath just in case the writing in the picture is hard to see.
Audience Feedback
Shani- Layout is good, colours match her dress
-Background colours doesn't match
Louisa- The left third is good
- Can't read the bottom text very well
Toby- Editing is good, the masthead is good
- Less writing
Shingi- Layout is good and the picture
- No use of different fonts, background colour can change
Harry- Colour scheme is good
-Background looks weird
Chloe- The picture matches the genre
-Background is weird
They all liked our magazine, but there was more improvements. They all had different views for what could be improved and we will use their feedback to make improvements for our magazine. Overall there wasn't as many positive views for our magazine, compared to our poster. We hope after these improvements have been made that our magazine will look better and our target audience will like it.
The audience feedback has really helped us and we now know what we need to do to make it more appealing.
Audience Feedback on Poster
This picture is the audience feedback Fariha got from our friends for our poster. She decided to write it down on paper and then show it by taking a picture. I am going to write the feedback underneath as well just in case the writing in the picture is a bit hard to see.
Audience Feedback:
Shani- Really good, stuck with the colours of a romance film
- Needs a star rating and maybe a quote
Louisa- The image is good, can tell the genre, the colour scheme is good
- Age rating could be bigger
Toby- The titles bold and eye-catching, the pictures fascinating
-Maybe put in a background
Shingi- Basically perfect, layout is good and the colour scheme
- Names could be smaller
Harry- Not racist, title relates to the picture
-Top bit could be pinker
Chloe- Looks like a real advertisement, doesn't look fake
-No improvements
Everyone who she asked liked our poster and all had something different to say about it. She also asked them if they thought there could be any improvements to the poster. She also wrote down what they thought could be improved. Overall it was a positive response and we will take their feedback into account and work on what can be improved. We feel that the feedback helped us a lot and we will use this to improve our poster.

First Draft of Magazine Cover
Fariha did the research of the magazine cover and ended up doing the first draft while we worked on editing the trailer. We were running out of time so we thought this was the best decision because we wouldn't have had enough time to finish everything by the deadline.
We decided to call our magazine cover "FUSION" because it's the same as our production company. By doing this, we emphasized the fact our film was done by a big production company that can afford to have it's own magazine.
We decided to call our magazine cover "FUSION" because it's the same as our production company. By doing this, we emphasized the fact our film was done by a big production company that can afford to have it's own magazine.
We had a bit of Mufaro's head covering the title as it will be a well known title that everyone can recognise.
This is the first draft of our magazine cover. Fariha kept the colour scheme quite plain but wanted to match it to the colour of her dress. The main image of the magazine cover makes Mufaro's character look more dominant then Sarah's as he has both hands around her as if he's protecting her. The direct code of address from Mufaro's character is quite strong making him look like he has a lot of powers but Sarah's expression looks almost scared.
The main article featuring on the magazine cover:
By putting "their" it makes the cover seem more personal and would make readers want to know more about them. Similarly, we underlines and highlighted "Dirty" to imply they will be spilling all their "naughty" secrets so readers would be more intrigued. It all goes along with the theme of our film as the relationship between the teacher and sixth form student is deemed wrong and "dirty".

First Draft of the Poster
Even though Sarah did the research and planning for film posters, Fariha made the film poster while me and Celyn worked on the finished the editing for the trailer. She was able to do this as Sarah's research enabled her to understand the codes and conventions of romantic drama film posters. We made this decision as our deadline was soon as we didn't give ourselves enough time to be able to finish all of it as a group.
This is the title and the release date I put on the poster. Making the title fit in with the films genre was a struggle as I couldn't find the right colours. However, in the logo-studio in Serif PagePlus X7 where I made the poster. I was able to mix colours to give it almost a mystical look; but by adding in a harsh black shadow and outline, I still managed to keep it a bit more serious to add to the drama aspect of the movie.
This is the first draft of the poster. The image we decided to use is effective because of the way she's holding his tie. It highlights the romantic lust in the movie as it implies she "wants him" Fariha added the white fog to the bottom on a site called IPiccy as it allowed her to overlay the hard colours at the bottom of the original picture so the title, release date, small print and logo would be more visible.

Codes and Conventions of film posters
Sarah has created a prezi, explaining all the codes and conventions of movie posters and with examples.
Analysis of Movie Posters
The main purpose of the poster, shows a photograph or a shot from the film, portraying the two characters intimate relationship. This is the unique selling point as well as focus of a romance film is the relationship between the characters.
The most predominant character is the female protagonist- This is referring back to the target audience mainly being a female audience. Furthermore often the male characters n the shot to show the character's relationship- the women is the main focus in the shot.

First Draft of the trailer (without non-diegetic sound)
This is our first rough cut of the trailer. As we got audience feedback on it we added non-diegetic sound so we thought we should export it first and then show the audience feedback. The next trailer cut will have the non-diegetic sound included and should be our final cut.

Production Companies
Production Companies
A production
company provides the physical basis for works in the realms of the performing
arts, new media, art, film, television, radio and video.
What is the
purpose of film logos?
A production logo is the introduction
between a company and an audience member, communicating what the company is all
about and what films they produce. For that reason companies invest a lot of
thought and effort into their logo design, thus ensuring that their message is
broadcasted loud and clear.
Logos from companies in media and
design industry are especially interesting, because when a company is promising
to be creative for a client, you expect it to be creative with everything that
has to do with its own identity. This needs to showcase creativity within the
logo leads to some stunning marks.
We have been using a variety of
secondary research sources to help us have a clear understanding for the reason
why production companies are created. This website below shows examples of
logos that have been created for numerous of different films.

Codes and Conventions Continued
This Prezi was made by Sarah Divilly.
In this Prezi she talks about the codes and conventions of film posters and analyses film posters and points out the codes and conventions for each one.
Click here to see Sarah's Prezi
Also Sarah did some secondary research and found this PowerPoint which analyses different genre movie posters. This is beneficial for our production for making our own movie poster for Chemistry as it allows us to have an understanding for what appeals to our target audience of teenage girls age, 15-18 years old.

Magazine Covers- Terminology
Terminology for magazine covers:
- Typography: font
- A Masthead: the title in the main typography to make readers familiar with the magazine they are reading.
- Main Image: typically the main person(s) or object in the feature article.
- Selling line/Strap line: seen as the introductory headline below the masthead describing the magazine.
- Pug: the "ears" of the magazine. Normally in one of the top corners of the magazine cover. The prices, logo, or even freebies are put there to catch the readers eye.
- Tag: the word or phrase used to engage a readers interest in the story by categorizing it. For example. "EXCLUSIVE" or "SENSATIONAL"; this showing the magazine has high compliments.
- Cover-lines: the essential articles inside the magazine are stated through the cell lines, and are regularly seen on the right hand side of the cover.
- Left Third: The left third contains the main feature article (Exclusive interview), as this is the core part of what may be inside the magazine. It also includes the main artist or band situated within.
- Top and Bottom Strip: These are the strips below and above the magazine that give further information to what may be included in the magazine. Mostly being the interesting parts of the magazine.

Editing from the first day of filming
Within all these screenshots we have highlighted what tools we used.
In the first screenshot we opened the sound bar and this enabled us to shorten the dialogue so that it doesn't drag on.
To make it easier for us when we were trimming some of the video shots we would zoom into the time bar so that we can cut the video very precisely and accurately.

This tool was very interesting to use and we have been using with many other shots in the trailer. This tool allows us to slow the speed of the clip in terms of video and sound. The reason we slowed it down was because when filming the actors were speaking quite fast, so when you watch it back it was quite fast paced and will go straight to the next scene. We did not want that to happen because it doesn't represent the codes and conventions of a romance trailer which are usually slow and calm.

Pictures taken in the process of filming
We decided to take photos while we were filming to show the settings we used and what we were doing while we were filming. In this pictures you can see the actors who are starring in the trailer and the environment we chose to film in. You can also see the lighting we used when we filming, which was natural lighting and this went pretty well with what we wanted because it wasn't too bright or too dark.
WWW: This day was really productive in terms of the amount of shots we took.
EBI: If we were more organised with the shots because when we were about to film, we realised that there couldn't be a class of just two people because that would look unrealistic, so we had to ask other sixth form students to sit in the classroom to make it look like this was a real science class.

Third Day of Filming
Summary: we filmed the the ending shot where the audience see "Tiffany" secretly filming "Mr Grey" with a random girl and we also shot the more intense scenes between Sarah and Mufaro.
We did this shot to test if the ending shot of "Tiffany" filming the couple would work properly as we weren't sure whether the shot would be clear enough. We wanted to do it in a science lab to show how the meeting between "Mr Grey" and the mysterious girl was a secret. This is the test shot.
What went well:
We didn't have to re-do any of our chosen shots as we were more focused on what we were doing. The angles and the shots came out very good. For example, the close up of Mufaro's character and Sarah's character going in for a kiss looked really good as they knew exactly how to do it and how to make it look realistic. This is the unedited version of it. We will get rid of all the ambient sound and put a copyright free soundtrack on top.
What could have gone better:
We should have planned the mise-en-scene better. We decided to film on that day last minute so we didn't have costumes or props ready so we have to improvise.
This is one of the shots we had to redo and really think about as we didn't want it to look unrealistic. This is the first shot we did and it didn't come out how we wanted it, as it looked too played out.

Second Day of Filming
Summary: We filmed the class first meeting "Mr Grey" and "Ravens" first time being late to class.
We did this shot to test the mise-en-scene. Before we started filming we had to take all the chairs off the tables and clear up a bit because it was the end of the day so the class was a bit messy. We weren't sure of it was the right sort of room but in the shot you can see the scientific posters and textbooks etc. to really emphasize the fact it's a science lab.
What went well:
We realised when it got to filming that it would look really unrealistic if "Raven" and "Tiffany" were the only ones in the classroom so we had to quickly try and find some sixth form students. Because it was after school, we knew there would be art students doing work; we asked them and they were willing to help. The lighting was good but I think we will edit it to make it less bright and we were able to find the right props easily.
This is the shot we liked for when "Raven" runs late to class. It goes on for 18 seconds as we were waiting for her to run up the stairs but we will edit so it's much quicker. We are also going to FOLEY her voice so we can cut out the ambient sound.
What could have gone better:
It took much longer then expected to film 3 or 4 shots as it was after school and we were all tired and kept laughing.

First Day of Filming
We started filming on the 24th of January 2015
We filmed the bedroom scene with "Raven" and "Tiffany" talking about the new chemistry and how good looking he is.
Before we started filming we did a few test shots to see what the mise-en-scene will look like. We didn't use natural light because we thought it looked too bright in the room we used, so we decided to shut the curtains and put on a lamp to make dim lighting for the setting we wanted.
What went well:
The setting: My bedroom was the perfect image for what we wanted because it was a typical girls bedroom with posters on the wall, calm coloured walls and a comfortable feel to it. It was perfect in the way it reflected "Raven's" personality; very subtle, calm and innocent.
We were also very organised. We knew exactly what we wanted to film and how many shots we thought we needed.

After 3 or 4 takes, this is one of our final shots for this scene. We will edit it to make her voice sound louder as it will probably be played against a quiet soundtrack so the audience may not be able to hear her as well as we want.
What could have gone better:
One thing that could have gone better was how serious we were about the scene, It took us quite a few takes to film exactly what we wanted due to us just giggling or being silly. Because of this, it took us longer than expected. We thought we would be done within a matter of 15 minutes but because of the laughing and not being able to get into character. it took us up to half an hour.

Shot Lists
SHOT
LIST
PROPOSED FILMING DATE: 16th January
These are the shot lists we created for our trailer. We had to plan out what kind of costumes the actors will be wearing, what equipment we'll be using and the type of shots to film. We mostly needed a camera and tripod for the equipment because we were just filming the shots and there wasn't any props used. We wanted the costumes to look professional so we had to try and copy the pictures we created of the dress code for our characters. We also wanted to use a different variety of shots in our trailer, so we had to plan out which ones to use and that would look good in the trailer.
Purpose of a shot list
What is the purpose of a shot list?
A shot list, a list of every shot in your film from beginning to end. Using a shot list is a great way to improve the planning of your film, as it's an opportunity to sit down and as a group decided what would happen in the shots, therefore this allows us to avoid missing shots.

Risk Assessment
This was the risk assessment that we created before making our trailer. We had to go through all the risks that might happen when filming such as the weather, someone falling over the equipment and keeping everything organised. The risk assessment will help us with what to be careful of with when we are filming and we will use this to make sure that we know exactly what we are doing.
Storyboard
These images are the storyboard which Fariha and Sarah produced. While they were producing this they were inspired by the trailer '50 Shades of Grey' as they wanted to explore the sexual nature and intrigue the audience into wanting to know what was going to happen in the actual film. They had to consider certain scenes such as: sexual scenes that are shown in the trailer, the sexual scenes are increased pace to build up tension as well as excitement for the audience.
Settings
These are some of the locations we have discussed and we have to use for different parts of our trailer. We are going to use my house for one of the locations which is below.

We are using my house for one of our main settings because it looks like a typical teenagers house. It's in a nice area and it fits into "Raven's" parents social class ranking. We wanted our target audience to feel as if they could relate to the settings so we chose places that look like what their house might look like.

My room was perfect for "Raven's" character because it reflected her personality. The room was small and cute and had a typical "girly" mise-en-scene in it, For example, the posters on the wall and the colours of the wall are stereotypical "girly" colours and because they are quite light and there's nothing bold in there, it reflects "Raven's" shy and innocent personality.

Costume Ideas
There are some of the costume ideas we have come up with:
Raven Fair (Sarah)

We want something similar to this for "Raven's" costume. We wanted to resemble something like a school uniform. Instead of a black jumper we might decided to put a school jumper on her but still give her a lanyard to show she is in sixth form. We thought it would be a good idea to put her in a school uniform costume to show the difference in age between the teacher and the student. However, the uniform isn't going to be as strict as a school students to show the difference between the school students and sixth former's. Bearing this in mind, we wanted "Raven's" character to be quite plain to show her shyness and to show audiences how closed and out sided she is to most of her peers.
Tiffany James (Fariha)

As "Tiffany's" character is "Raven's" friend and they are classmates, we needed her costume to be very similar to "Raven's". However, her personality is a bit more bolder and she's much more open than "Raven" so we wanted to dress her a little bit different. She will still have the black skirt, white shirt and school jumper, but we have put her in a leather jacket and leather boots instead to show the more edgy side of her. We purposely put a red scarf on as red is a symbol for danger and as the audience watches our trailer they will learn that she is a very dangerous and ruthless character. If we decide to put other costumes on her, we will make sure there are little bits of red to carry on the presentation.
Daniel Grey (Mufaro)

As "Mr. Daniel Grey" is a teacher his costume will be a suit. Later on in the trailer we might have him in a shirt and jeans but he will dress more formally than both of the other characters to show the age difference them and to show the power difference.
Raven Fair (Sarah)

Final Casting
We have decided to use Sarah who will be playing as "Raven Rosalinda Fair" who is our female protagonist. We think she will be great for this part because as she has an innocent look about her. We are going to dress her in uniform because she looks older than we want her to be and we want to show the little age difference between her and the teacher.
To play the teacher "Daniel Grey" we have chosen Mufaro Shambare. We have chosen him because he completely challenges the male protagonist stereotype. As he is a drama student we thought he'd be able to bring our preferred reading to the audience.
To play "Tiffany James", "Raven's" best friend, we have chosen Fariha Khan as the group thinks that she would be able to play the part effectively.
